Symptoms of Thyroid Disease
The butterfly-shaped gland in front of your neck is known as the thyroid gland. This gland is responsible for controlling the speed of your metabolism, which means it regulates the energy system of your body. Thyroid disorders occur when the production of your thyroid hormones are disrupted, which leads to disturbing the metabolism of your body. When your hormone levels go too high or too low, your body will experience a wide range of symptoms. Some of the symptoms of the thyroid disease are listed below: Unexplained change in your weight An unexplained weight gain or weight loss is one of the most evident symptoms of thyroid disorder. If you have suddenly gained weight, it might be that your thyroid levels have become low. This condition is known as hypothyroidism. Whereas, if you lose weight unexpectedly, there are chances that your body is producing fewer hormones than what is required. This condition where your body produces fewer hormones is known as hypothyroidism. Swelling in your neck A visible symptom of the thyroid disease is a swelling or enlargement in your neck. Due to the occurrence of either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, a goiter may have occurred. Sometimes the reason for the swelling can also be thyroid cancer or nodules, as they are lumps that grow inside the thyroid.
